This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.
Ravens: The Ravens are going to get a Josh McCown led Cleveland Browns this week in Cleveland. They are owned in less than 10% of leagues. Last week the Browns gave up 3 sacks and had an interception. The Ravens defense looked good a week ago by only giving up 7 points to the Buffalo Bills. I like the Ravens this week.
Eagles: The Eagles take on the Bears. The Eagles looked great this past week, albeit against the Browns. They held them to 10 points and forced a turnover. If there is one thing that Jay Cutler is known for, it is slinging the ball around the field and turning it over. He got sacked 5 times and threw an interception last week. The Eagles are owned in 31% of leagues, so if you can’t get the Ravens, take a shot with the Eagles.
Revisiting Last Week:
49ers: The 49ers were our #1 play last week. If you used them last week you were handsomely rewarded. They were the absolute best play that you could have gotten off the waiver wire in most leagues. The 49ers pitched a shutout, had 2 interceptions, and 2 sacks. They finished this past week as the third best defense in the league.
Browns: Carson Wentz was surprisingly good. He made the Browns pay with a couple of touchdown tosses and racked up 29 points. The Browns defense was not able to force any turnovers and only mustered 2 sacks on the rookie QB. They proved to be a bad play this week.
Titans: The Titans did nothing defensively against Shaun Hill except give up 25 points. Literally nothing. No turnovers, no sacks.
Vikings: This is the team to have owned defensively Sunday. They were owned in 60% of leagues, so they may not have been available in your league. If they were, they finished by giving up 16 points, had an interception, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 sacks, and 2 touchdowns against the Titans.
