Chasing Defense: Week 15

by Chris Foster

This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.

This Week:

Redskins (v. Panthers): The Panthers have struggled most of the season. They seem like a team in disarray. I like the prospects of them traveling to Washinton on Monday night. Redskin nation should bring it and I could see the Panthers being rattled. Not to mention that the Redskins are still playing for a shot to win a wild card spot. They are owned in about 7% of leagues. #HTTR

Colts (@ Vikings): The Vikings are anything but a stellar offense at this point. Sam Bradford is the game manager of a team that does not have a ton talent on offense. The Colts defense isn’t great either, but if I couldn’t get the Skins defense, then this would be the second best option under 20% owned this week. The Colts are owned in about 7% of leagues as well.

Revisiting Last Week:

Titans (v. Broncos): The Titans frustrated the Broncos all day and even held them scoreless through three-quarters. They ended up only giving up 10 points on the day, they had 2 fumble recoveries and 3 sacks. That was good enough for 1o fantasy points in most leagues. It is a result that we should be pretty happy with, but knowing how good the Falcons were this week, it can make you greedy.

Falcons (@ Rams): Well, we called this one right. The Falcons defense was great from the start. They scored a league-high 26 fantasy points this week. If they were only our #1 defense for the week, and not #2. They gave up 14 points, had 3 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions, 3 sacks, and 2 touchdowns! Wow, what a game!

Pipe Dream: (Team we wish we picked up)

Falcons (@ Rams): We hit it. This was the defense to own.

Running Total:

We got to put our money where our mouth is, so here is how we have done so far this season!

  • Week 1: 49ers D vs. Rams = 14 points
  • Week 2: Ravens D vs. Browns = 10 points
  • Week 3: Dolphins D vs. Browns= 3 points
  • Week 4: Titans D vs. Texans= 5 points
  • Week 5: Dolphins D vs. Titans= 7 points
  • Week 6: Lions D vs. Rams= 2 points
  • Week 7: Dolphins D vs. Bills= 6 points
  • Week 8: Cowboys D vs. Eagles= 7 points
  • Week 9: Dolphins D vs. Jets= 13 points
  • Week 10: Redskins D vs. Vikings= 5 points
  • Week 11: Dolphins D vs. Rams= 8 points
  • Week 12: Saints D vs. Rams= 9 points
  • Week 13: Bears D vs. 49ers= 15 points (End of Regular Season= 104 PTS, 4th Best Def.)
  • Week 14: Titans D vs. Broncos= 10 Points
    Total = 114 Points
Our 114 points total would make our “Chasing Defense” teams rank as the 3rd best defense in the league. That is what chasing defense is supposed to do, give you the best possible defense without having to use a high draft pick on a defense. If you played all the defenses we had listed for the season, you would have had the 4th best defense in the league! Now on to the playoff charge!!
