Down to the Wire: Week 16

by Chris Foster

Each week we will take a look at players who are more than likely on your waiver wire that can be added to your team and help you this week. One of the biggest complaints with waiver wire add articles is that many of these guys are not available in your league. Using ESPN’s ownership statistics, everyone mentioned in this article has 50% or lower ownership status. This article will be divided into two parts, standard and deep leagues. The players in the deeper league wire are typically guys that you can stash that have upside. If you use a Free Agent Auction Bidding (FAAB) system, in parenthesis will be the percentage of your budget we would use on each player. In those type leagues, know the bidding history of your opponents and adjust accordingly. Players are ranked in order by their position.

Since Down to the Wire only highlights players who are owned by less than half of owners in ESPN leagues, I first want to give you a list of guys who are only owned in 50-75% of leagues that would be premium adds over any other player in most circumstances (depending on your positional needs). (Percentage owned in parentheses)

**As we head into Week 16 it is likely your Championship Game if you are still alive! I will not be using bid amounts this week, because if there is a player you want, spend whatever you have left on them!**

*** WEEK 16 WAIVER WIRE ADDS***– We only have listed players we think may help you this week in a Championship game based on production and matchup.

*** It is also time to spend that FAAB, no reason to hold onto it, so be aggressive when bidding! If the Bids seem high, it’s because now is the time to spend money, you can’t keep it!!***

Standard League Adds:

Running Backs

RB Dion Lewis v. NYJ (43.2% owned): Lewis received 18 carries for 95 yards on Sunday. He surprisingly only had 2 receptions. For the first time this season he outgained his backfield mate LaGarrette Blount. The Jets kept Jay Ajayi in check this past week, but they looked extremely vulnerable against the run in previous weeks. Lewis will be a flex play entering this week with some upside. **PPR SPECIAL**

RB Paul Perkins @ PHI (15.3% owned):  Paul Perkins had 11 carries for 56 yards, which is much better than Rashad Jennings who ran 18 times for just 38 yards. Perkins is a desperate flex play against the Eagles this week, but if he can sneak in the end zone it would cash in his value! **PPR SPECIAL**

RB Derrick Henry @ JAX (41.2% owned): The last 3 weeks Henry has been valuable with DeMarco Murray still healthy. He has 33 fantasy points over that period and found the end zone twice this past week. Against a Jags team that just fired their head coach, it is likely the Titans could be running the ball a lot late. I like Henry as a flex play this week.

RB Charles Sims @ NO (13.4% owned): Sims was better two weeks ago than he was this past week, but wasn’t great in either game. I really like his matchup this week against a high-powered Saints offense. It could be a high scoring game and Sims could find more use. He will be a flex play this week.

Wide Receivers

WR Dontrelle Inman  @ CLE (40.5% owned): Inman continues to make big plays week after week for the Chargers. He wasn’t as productive last week as he has been down the stretch, but he was still a solid play. He gets the Browns this week giving him an opportunity to have a big week.

WR Cameron Meredith v. WAS (23.9% owned): Matt Barkley obviously doesn’t have an issue throwing to Cameron Meredith. Meredith and Barkley continue to have a hot connection. It is possible that Meredith could draw coverage from Redskins corner Josh Norman, but I doubt he will the whole game. He is hovering on the border of flex territory.

WR Malcolm Mitchell v. NYJ (23.9% owned): After 4 straight big weeks Mitchell was held to only 1 catch this past week. Granted that was against the Broncos. I like Mitchell this week as he takes on a Jets secondary that has struggled most of the year.

WR J.J. Nelson @ SEA (10% owned): With Floyd out, Nelson stepped right in and snagged a touchdown catch on Sunday. He only had 28 yards receiving but he has scored 3 games in a row now. He draws a tough matchup against the Seahawks secondary so he is more of a desperate flex play this week.

WR Corderrelle Patterson @ GB (4% owned): The Green Bay secondary has struggled most of the year and this week they get the Vikings. The Vikings passing attack has been pretty subpar this year as well, but I like Patterson in this matchup if Adam Thielen sits out. Keep an eye on the injury report.
