This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.
We have three really good matchups for you this week. Feel free to play any of these and expect a good return on your investment.
Play of the Week:
Ravens (v. CLE): It was hard for me to decide on our play of the week this week because we have three really good matchups. Cleveland QB DeShone Kizer tends to hang on to the ball a little long, which should lead to some easy sacks. The Ravens secondary is very strong with Eric Weddle and Jimmy Smith. I think this may be the top matchup of the week.
Others this Week:
Raiders (v. Jets): The Raiders defense is much improved and did a great job against a very good Titans offense last week. This week they get Josh McCown, and it is hard not to see the Jets turning the ball over some in this one.
Buccaneers (v. Bears): The Bucs were off last week and should be hungry coming into this week against the Bears. They get to face their former backup QB, Mike Glennon. Something tells me he is going to try to over compensate against the Bucs and force a few throws that could lead to some INTs.
Revisiting Last Week:
Rams (v. Colts): I hope that you played this match-up, I know I did across several leagues and it paid off in a big way! They tied with the Jags, who were a surprise, as the highest scoring defense of the week. They only gave up 9 points, had 2 INTs they returned both for touchdowns, had a fumble recovery, and had 4 sacks! Hard to imagine a better start to the year.
Steelers (@ Browns): I also played the Steelers in several leagues as well and they had a big pay off scoring 17 fantasy points. They only gave up 18 points in the game, had an interception, blocked a punt they recovered in the end zone for a TD, and had an incredible 7 sacks!
Bills (v. Jets): The Bills turned in a solid 8 points, which in a week like this past weekend seems underwhelming. We will usually be satisfied with that, but with the Steelers and Rams, we were getting greedy! The Bills have up 12 points, had 2 interceptions, and had a sack.
Pipe Dream: (Team we wish we picked up)
We pretty much hit it this week. The only other pick up you may wish you had was the Jacksonville Jaguars who also finished with 27 fantasy points on the week against the Houston Texans!
We got to put our money where our mouth is, so here is how we have done so far this season!
- Week 1: Rams D vs. Colts= 27 points
- Week 2: Ravens D vs. Browns=
- Total = 27 Points
Our 27 points total would make our “Chasing Defense” teams rank as the #1 defense in the league. We will look for that number to improve this week!
