This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.
With several teams going on bye this week we have two matchups for you to play that should be widely available in virtually every league!
Play of the Week:
Bears (v. MIN): The Bears are available in 99% of leagues, and as long as Sam Bradford remains out, they are going to be the play of the week on Monday Night Football. We will continue to follow Case Keenum around and now feast on an offense without its best playmaker Dalvin Cook.
Others this Week:
Jets (@ CLE): The Jets were horrible week 2 against Oakland but have been serviceable since then. The Browns have struggled offensively with rookie QB DeShone Kizer and I don’t think it gets any better against the Jets.
Revisiting Last Week:
Lions (@ MIN): We did pretty good with our prediction this week. The Lions had 11 fantasy points which made them a top 6 defense for the week. They only gave up 7 points and had 3 fumble recoveries and 2 sacks.
Packers (v. CHI): The Packers finished with 10 points right behind the Lions this week. So, if you had to settle with the Packers you would have been pretty pleased with this one. They gave up 14 points, but had 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and had 1 sack.
Titans (@ HOU): I don’t want to talk about this one. We all have bad days. This was a very, very, bad day for the Titans defense. I hope you didn’t have to settle with them like I did in one league.
Pipe Dream: (Team we wish we picked up)
Buf (@ ATL): I honestly considered this game as one of our matchups this week, but then I decided better of betting against Matt Ryan with all his weapons in the dome in Atlanta. Well, maybe I should have taken the bet. The Bills finished with about 14 fantasy points on the day by giving up just 17 points, 2 INTs, 1 FR, 1 sack, and a defensive TD!
We got to put our money where our mouth is, so here is how we have done so far this season!
- Week 1: Rams D vs. Colts= 27 points
- Week 2: Ravens D vs. Browns= 16 Points
- Week 3: Dolphins D vs. Jets= 4 Points
- Week 4: Lions D @ Min= 11 points
- Total = 47 Points
Our 58 points total would make our “Chasing Defense” teams rank as the #1 defense in the league. We will look for that number to improve this week!
