Chasing Defense: Week 6

This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.

This Week:

There are several good match-ups this week to stream. I have 3 listed below, but I also like the Titans @ Indy if you can’t get one of the three teams below. Each of the teams below should be available in most leagues though!

Play of the Week:

Redskins (v. SF): The Skins are coming off a bye and they looked pretty good in their last campaign. I always love picking on a team traveling across the U.S to play a 1:00 game as well. Hoyer looked good last week, but with a RB situation in flux I like this as the play of the week.

Others this Week:

Falcons (v. MIA): This is a very good option for a play of the week as well. The Falcons pass rush hasn’t been the  best since the lost Vic Beasley, but against a reeling Miami team they should thrive.

Bucs (@ ARI): The Bucs finally found a pass rush last Thursday night and the Cardinals offensive line has been struggling. Palmer has turned the ball over several times this year and their run game has been stagnant, even with Adrian Peterson’s arrival I don’t expect much!

Revisiting Last Week:

Bears (v. MIN): The Bears picked up 4 sacks on Monday night while giving up 20 points. They were not able to turn over Keenum like we had hoped, but they were able to pressure Sam Bradford when he was in the game. I still petition that we should get points for the fake punt TD since it happened on special teams.

Jets (@ CLE): The Jets would have been a good pickup this week if this is the direction you went. They netted you somewhere close to 9 points. They had 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, and a sack.

Pipe Dream: (Team we wish we picked up)

Dolphins (v. TEN): Once I heard the news that Mariota was out and that Matt Cassell was starting for the Titans I immediately added the Dolphins in several of my leagues 15 minutes before kickoff. This was the play of the week an would have been my selection had I known earlier. They got 19 fantasy points on the back of several turnovers and a defensive touchdown. Follow the twitter to get updates like this in the future.

Running Total:

We got to put our money where our mouth is, so here is how we have done so far this season!

  • Week 1: Rams D vs. Colts= 27 points
  • Week 2: Ravens D vs. Browns= 16 Points
  • Week 3: Dolphins D vs. Jets= 4 Points
  • Week 4: Lions D @ Min= 11 points
  • Week 5: Bears D v. Min= 6 Points
  • Total = 64 Points
Our 64 points total would make our “Chasing Defense” teams rank as the #2 defense in the league. We will look for that number to improve this week!
