Down to the Wire: Week 6 Adds

by Chris Foster

Each week we will take a look at players who are more than likely on your waiver-wire that can be added to your team and help you this week. One of the biggest complaints with waiver wire add articles is that many of these guys are not available in your league. Using ESPN’s ownership statistics, everyone mentioned in this article has 50% or lower ownership status. This article will be divided into two parts, standard and deep leagues. The players in the deeper league wire are typically guys that you can stash that have upside. If you use a Free Agent Auction Bidding (FAAB) system, in parenthesis will be the percentage of your budget we would use on each player. In those type leagues, know the bidding history of your opponents and adjust accordingly. Players are ranked in order by their position.

Since Down to the Wire only highlights players who are owned by less than half of owners in ESPN leagues, I first want to give you a list of guys who are only owned in 50-75% of leagues that would be premium adds over any other player in most circumstances (depending on your positional needs). (Percentage owned in parentheses)

  2. Derek Carr 74%
  3. Phillip Rivers 63%

Standard League Adds:

Running Backs

RB Jerrick McKinnon (29% owned)(FAAB 20-30%): Hopefully last week you were able to pick McKinnon up before his Monday night showcase. Let’s be honest, he is better than Latavius Murray. This should be his backfield going forward.**PPR SPECIAL**

RB Alex Collins (33% owned)(FAAB 5-15%): Buck Allen got the goal line carries early in the game and finished with 21 carries to Collins 12, but it appears Collins will be involved in the Baltimore run game. Allen was once again under 4 yards a carry while Collins was over that mark. I think he continues to eat into that workload.

RB Wayne Gallman (26% owned)(FAAB 5-10%): Darkwa had the nice game but he got banged up in the contest and it looked clear that Gallman could carry the load. He had 11 carries for 57 yards and may be relied on now that the Giants WR corps is hurt.

RB Matt Brieda (7% owned)(FAAB 2-5%): Just something worth keeping your eye on. Brieda outpaced Carlos Hyde this week because the 49ers were going with the hot hand. I am not saying Hyde’s job is in jeopardy but it is worth monitoring.

RB Marlon Mack (3% owned)(FAAB 2-5%): Marlon Mack has looked good in almost every opportunity he has received this season. Gore won’t last much longer, and even if he does, Mack has been a great change of pace for the Colts offense. ** PPR SPECIAL **

Wide Receivers

WR John Brown (41% owned)(FAAB 5-10%):  This goes for all of the Arizona Cardinals WRs, Larry Fitzgerald is the #1 target and then some combination of John Brown, Jaron Brown, and JJ Nelson is worth something behind Fitz. The trouble is figuring out which one to play.

WR Jaron Brown (24% owned)(FAAB 5-10%): See Above

WR JJ Nelson (35% owned)(FAAB 5-10%): See Above

WR Kendal Wright (15% owned)(FAAB 5-10%): Kendall Wright looked to be the favorite target of rookie Mitch Trubisky. He will continue to get more work from the rookie as the season and their chemistry progresses. Could turn out to be a good flex play in PPR formats.

WR Corey Davis (33% owned)(FAAB 2-5%): It was only a few years ago when OBJ showed up halfway through the season and posted top 5 numbers the rest of the way. I am not saying Davis or Mike Williams is OBJ, but they could turn out to be valuable in the second half of the season for you. Get a lowball bid in for them before they break out.

WR Mike Williams (7% owned)(FAAB 2-5%): See Above

Tight Ends

TE Tyler Eifert (47% owned)(FAAB 15-25%): In a year when TE play has struggled tremendously if someone has dropped Eifert in your league and you need help at TE then he is worth a shot. When he is healthy we know how good he can be.

TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (36% owned)(FAAB 10-15%): ASJ continues to become more involved in the passing game with Josh McCown. He found the end zone last week and his value is only increasing.
