Chasing Defense: Week 7

This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.

This Week:

Last week there were several good defenses that hit it big that were available. We hit on a few of them, and this week provides us with another great opportunity.

Play of the Week:

Cowboys (@SF): The Cowboys will get a shot at rookie QB this week. They have struggled some but I think this matchup coming off of a bye will be beneficial to them.

Others this Week:

Saints (@GB): This sounds like the worst combination of all time. The Saints! At Green Bay! With a backup QB and the red-hot Saints defense, I am willing to take my chances here.

Dolphins (V. NYJ): The Dolphins are coming off of a big win in Atlanta in which their defense looked really good. They get a team that isn’t as good as Atlanta this week at home.

Revisiting Last Week:

Redskins (v. SF): The Skins started off tough against the Niners and eventually flushed starter Brian Hoyer out of the game. The rookie CJ Beathard came in and did a good job of managing the game. Th Skins finished with 1 INT and 3 sacks for a total of 5 points.

Falcons (v. MIA): Yikes, who would have thought Miami would have been able to do what they did in Atlanta after the Falcons came off a bye week. This one was the worst of the week. I apologize if you played them. They gave up 20 points and grabbed 1 INT for 2 points on the week.

Bucs (@ ARI): The Bucs gave up 38 points in a blowout but managed to score a touchdown and get 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 sacks. That would have netted you about 9 points.

Pipe Dream: (Team we wish we picked up)

Saints (v. DET): We should have tuned in to the fact that Staffords mobility could play into the Saints favor, but with the highest over/under of the week I would have never thought the Saints defense would yield 32 points on the week! They managed 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and 5 sacks!

Running Total:

We got to put our money where our mouth is, so here is how we have done so far this season!

  • Week 1: Rams D vs. Colts= 27 points
  • Week 2: Ravens D vs. Browns= 16 Points
  • Week 3: Dolphins D vs. Jets= 4 Points
  • Week 4: Lions D @ Min= 11 points
  • Week 5: Bears D v. Min= 6 Points
  • Week 6: Skins D v. SF=  5 Points
  • Total = 69 Points
Our 69 points total would make our “Chasing Defense” teams rank as the #3 defense in the league. We will look for that number to improve this week!
