This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.
Play of the Week:
Chargers (v. Bills): The Chargers will welcome the Bills all the way across the country and when they do they will face rookie QB, Nathan Peterman. I love this matchup for the Bills who are available in most leagues.
Bucs (@ MIA): The Bucs get to face Jay Cutler and a stagnant offense this week that has been stifled at every turn. Last week the Bucs defense got some guys back and looked much better.
Dolphins (@ TB): This game is likely to be sloppy as backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will get his second start. The Bucs struggled to score last week and I doubt much changes this week.
Revisiting Last Week:
Bears (v. GB): Green Bay somewhat came alive and scored 23 points and held on to the football only giving up 3 sacks for 3 points.
Giants (@ SF): CJ Beathard had a great day against a Giants Defense that looked like they had given up. They gave up 31 points but had 1 INT and 1 FR.
Patriots (@ Den): The Pats were the best of the defenses to own this week as they netted you 14 fantasy points. They gave up 16 points, 1 INT, 1 fumble recovery, and scored a touchdown.
Pipe Dream: (Team we wish we picked up)
Falcons (v. DAL): The Falcons ended up dominating the Cowboys without Ezekiel Elliot. Not only that but the offensive line gave up 8 sacks. They also only allowed 7 points and recovered two Dak Prescott fumbles for a total of 15 fantasy points.
We got to put our money where our mouth is, so here is how we have done so far this season!
- Week 1: Rams D vs. Colts= 27 points
- Week 2: Ravens D vs. Browns= 16 Points
- Week 3: Dolphins D vs. Jets= 4 Points
- Week 4: Lions D @ Min= 11 points
- Week 5: Bears D v. Min= 6 Points
- Week 6: Skins D v. SF= 5 Points
- Week 7: Cowboys D v. SF= 15 Points
- Week 8: Browns D v. Min= 4 Points
- Week 9: 49ers D v. Ari= 4 Points
- Week 10: Pats D v. Den= 14 Points
- Total = 106 Points
Our 106 points total would make our “Chasing Defense” teams rank as the #3 defense in the league. We will look for that number to improve this week!
