This is a weekly column that looks at the best defenses to chase throughout each week of the season. The goal is to give you a few defenses that should be available in your league that will give you an advantage at the defensive position each week.
Play of the Week:
Redskins (v. NYG): The Giants play the Redskins on Thursday night and their offense has just looked awful. We know that Thursday nights can be defensive struggles and the way this offense has looked, I don’t see them putting up many points.
Pats (v. MIA): We keep picking on Jay Cutler (or Matt Moore). The Pats Defense is allowing less than 15 points per game in their last 6 contests. I think they have turned things around, and this matchup in New England is a good one.
Revisiting Last Week:
Chargers (v. Bills): The Chargers were the defense to own as Nathan Peterman of the Bills put up one of the worst performances of all time for a QB. The allowed 24 points in the game but had 5 interceptions, a fumble recovery, a sack, and scored twice on the way to scoring 25 fantasy points.
Bucs (@ MIA): The Bucs also had a huge day after allowing 20 points but securing 3 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, a sack, and a touchdown. That was good for 18 fantasy points.
Dolphins (@ TB): The Dolphins defense didn’t help us very much. They were good for 1 fantasy point. I hope you were able to play the Chargers or the Bucs last week.
Pipe Dream: (Team we wish we picked up)
We hit this week with the Chargers as the best defensive pickup.
We got to put our money where our mouth is, so here is how we have done so far this season!
- Week 1: Rams D vs. Colts= 27 points
- Week 2: Ravens D vs. Browns= 16 Points
- Week 3: Dolphins D vs. Jets= 4 Points
- Week 4: Lions D @ Min= 11 points
- Week 5: Bears D v. Min= 6 Points
- Week 6: Skins D v. SF= 5 Points
- Week 7: Cowboys D v. SF= 15 Points
- Week 8: Browns D v. Min= 4 Points
- Week 9: 49ers D v. Ari= 4 Points
- Week 10: Pats D v. Den= 14 Points
- Week 11: Chargers D v. BUF= 25 Points
- Total = 131 Points
Our 131 points total would make our “Chasing Defense” teams rank as the #2 defense in the league. We will look for that number to improve this week!
